Montserrat

In 10 days we’ll be passing by Montserrat as we head to our jamming vacation. During our last Caribbean vacation the Soufriere Hills volcano caused a bit of chaos. I hope it slumbers through this trip.

3 in 1

We’re losing 3 folks this week, which brings the count to 8 for the first quarter of 2006 and 26 since I started counting.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

So long and thanks for all the fish
so sad that it should come to this
we tried to warn you all but oh dear
you may not share our intellect
which might explain your disrespect
for all the natural wonders that grow around you
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

Over the past 15 months we’ve lost 23, soon to be 24, folks from my department. We’ve gained about 6 or so folks, leaving us with about 68. You’d think HR or someone would notice that there is a problem.

Split March Personalities

Growing up in Durham, North Carolina I learned that March is special month. I was a fierce “ABC” – “Anyone But Carolina” during my formative years. Then I ended up going to UNC-Chapel Hill and learned that Carolina wasn’t all that bad. Now I cheer with pride for Carolina and Duke and sometimes even Wake Forest. So for our office pool I entered two brackets for the NCAAB Championship — one with Carolina winning and one with Duke winning.

Death in an Online World

I received an e-mail late friday night reminding me that my grandmother’s birthday is this Friday, August 5. Problem is she died this past spring. But my birthday card reminder service doesn’t know that. Having to manually go in and delete her entry just doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t want to delete her from my life. Her influence on my life was profound. When I was younger we lived next door to her and I called her my “other mother.”

Wish I could just change it to a reminder to celebrate her life, without the card. But no, this handy helpful service is just for cards. I think I need a new system.
